Double Check Valves vs Dual Check Valves in Residential Sites
Message from the President
By Gregg Burke
Over the past several months I have been in contact with the Chief Plumbing Inspector for the City of Calgary. My initial contact was to discuss the installation of the Dual Check in city residences that had irrigation systems. The discussion quickly changed into the installation of a Double Check Valve Assembly. Allow me to explain and tell you what I do know:
- FACT - The province is forcing the city into installing a DCVA in every residence.
- FACT - This change is going to summer. happen this
- FACT – Existing homes WILL be grandfathered.
- FACT – An irrigation company may install the device, however the DCVA test must be preformed by a qualified Backflow tester.
Now for what we do not know:
- When is the actual date this will be implemented?
- Is a permit now required to install the DCVA?
- Are we submitting the DCVA test to the city?
- Is the device required to be tested annually?
- Why is the province forcing this issue?
As I write this message to you today, neither the city or the province have contacted me concerning this major change in our industry. I am however expecting a letter from both the city and the province clarifying their position which I will share with the industry.
Any questions, concerning this change or anything else effecting the industry please contact me.
Regards,

Sun & Salsa and the ACIA !?
Sun and Salsa Festival - 22 July 2012
July is Smart Irrigation Month and this year we've decided to get the word out by going directly to the public at the Sun and Salsa festival in Kensington. This annual family event takes place along Kensington Road and 10th Street NW. Three live entertainment stages will spread artistic flavor through the neighborhood if you want to listen to music and dance. Bring your kids! Check our great Kensington retailers, restaurants and pubs. They will be open for your shopping and eating pleasure.
|
The streets will be filled with vendors & artisans selling a variety of products & services for the day. This is where you'll find the ACIA spreading the word of proper water use and promoting the benefits of hiring certified contractors. |
|
Both Kensington Road and 10th Street will be closed for the day. There's an LRT stop (Sunny Side Station) right at the Kensington Safeway, so public transit is a great way to beat the crowds.
Want to get involved?
The ACIA is always looking for members wanting to get involved. If you would like to find out more and are interested please contact Gregg Burke, President info@irrigationalberta.org |
