The Alberta Chapter of the Irrigation Association was formed in March, 2001. It's mission is to promote efficient and effective water management and be the voice of the irrigation industry for Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

2010 AGM and Schedule of Events

We have a packed schedule of events organized for Tuesday, February 2nd, our biggest day of the 2010 calendar. The events include:

  • 7:30 – 8:30am FREE Breakfast
  • 8:30 – noon AGM, which also includes the Keynote Speech and our 4th Annual Irrigation Roundtable
  • 1pm to 7pm (NEW) Tradeshow
  • 3pm to 6pm (NEW) Snacks and Cash Bar

The AGM is a must attend event for those in and around the Alberta Irrigation Industry, with key players from all parts of the industry attending. This year we are pleased to have with us Deborah Hamlin, Executive Director of the Irrigation Association. See you there!!

Sandford the AGM Keynote Speaker

We are pleased to announce that noted author and water conservationist Bob Sandford is the Keynote Speaker for the 2010 AGM. Bob is the Chair of the United Nations “Water for Life” Decade partnership in Canada. Among Bob’s many other roles he sits on the Expert Panel for the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy that is presently focusing on Canadian water policy. more information

Important 2010 SIM News

Our Smart Irrigation Month newspaper pull-out campaign will be in May this year to better serve those members looking to advertise for the 2010 irrigation season. On February 2, 2010 at the AGM/FREE Breakfast we will be making early bird pricing available for those wishing to take advantage of this great advertising opportunity. This campaign began in 2007 and will this year be “the best ever”. Not only will we be running pull-out supplements in The Calgary Sun, Red Deer Advocate, Lethbridge Herald and, possibly a major Edmonton paper, but we will also have radio spots and on-line promotion. ACIA Wins Prestigious Award

The ACIA has been named the 2009 Irrigation Association Partner of the Year. The honor recognizes a person or group making exceptional contributions or distinctive accomplishments in areas allied with the irrigation industry. The IA noted that the ACIA’s “initiatives to drive participation in membership, education & certification, as well as promotion of Smart Irrigation Month are exemplary”.

Efficient Irrigation Practices

Over the coming year the ACIA will be actively promoting efficient irrigation practices designed to help conserve water.  These simple practices along with new irrigation technologies can greatly improve the efficiency of existing irrigation systems.
